Indiana Democrats Panic
Indiana Democrats are in a state of total panic over Tamyra D’Ippolito.
The filing deadline for candidates to fill retiring Sen. Evan Bayh seat is Friday. Right now, the only person who has begun the required signature process to get on the May 4 Indiana Democratic primary ballot is Tamyra D’Ippolito, a political unknown that has never run for office before.
As of Monday afternoon, D’Ippolito needed about 1,000 more signatures to reach the required 4,500. She told Fox News on Tuesday she’s confident she’ll make it. According to Fox, that could be a shocker for establishment Democrats who fear that if she qualifies, she’ll lose the seat in the general election to a more experienced Republican candidate.
Party leaders in Indiana and Washington say they’d much prefer nobody be on the ballot, so the state party can select its candidate through a separate nominating process.
