
The results of a Gallup poll released Monday indicate that conservatives continue to outnumber moderates and liberals - maintaning an upward trend compared to 2008.
Forty percent of Americans surveyed described their political ideology as conservative, while 36 percent said their views were moderate and 20 percent said liberal, according to the poll.
Also, on specific issues measured over the same time period, there are more Americans expressing conservative positions. On the fundamental American issue, respondents claiming that there is too much government regulation of business and industry jumped from 38% in September 2008 to 45% in September 2009.
The percentage of Americans who consider themselves “pro-life” on abortion rose from 44% in May 2008 to 51% in May 2009.
