Al Franken – Senate Bad Boy
Senate bad boy, Al Franken (D-Minn.) is at it again, but this time showing a true bipartisan spirit, he verbally attacked White House senior adviser David Axelrod. Complaining that President Barack Obama should have taken a more insistent role on health reform, Franken and Axelrod clashed behind closed doors.
“We had a very good exchange,” Axelrod said. “He expressed his feelings about this. I thought [I] responded very candidly to him. And it was a good airing of views.
According to Politico, Axelrod pushed back on the Franken complaint. “I think people would like the president to … snap fingers and finish this out,” he said. “We have a system: You have to have a certain number of votes to pass a bill. Putting that together takes time, and he’s been working on that. His goal, and his interest, is not in making a symbolic gesture … but in actually getting something done. … Reconciling all those views is a task. And it is not something that you can do by command or by ordinance of the president of the United States. It takes some work, and we’re working through it. I’m encouraged by what I see.”
Franken is known for his outbursts in the Senate that are conveyed with an insulting manner. A few weeks ago Franken cut off Sen. Joe Lieberman during a speech, angering Lieberman’s good friend Sen. John McCain.
The former SNL participant seems bent on upholding the reputation for Minnesota politicians begun by former governor Jesse Ventura.
