Vancouver police have discovered a body they believe to be that of missing Growing Pains actor Andrew Koenig.
Authorities say that the body was discovered around noon Thursday in Stanley Park, a vast urban park that police have been searching since Koenig, 41, was reported missing on February 18 after he failed to return to California from Vancouver.
Vancouver police have scheduled a 9 p.m ET press conference at the park with Koenig’s family.
The body was discovered just one day after Koenig’s parents traveled to Vancouver to appeal for assistance in locating their son, who is known for his role as Richard “Boner” Stabone on the 80’s sitcom Growing Pains.
Andrew’s father Walter Koenig, also an actor, played Pavel Chekov in the original Star Trek series.
UPDATE: Vancouver police have confirmed the body is that of Andrew Koenig.
Andrew’s father Walter Koenig made a tearful appearance at the press conference, confirming that the body discovered in a densely wooded area off a trail was his son. Koenig also said, “My son took his own life,” and with his wife Judy, pleaded with others who might have depressed family members to recognize the signs.
