Polanski Support Not Universal

From the same crowd that would enjoy seeing George W. Bush hanged, drawn and quartered in public, members of the Hollywood chic and international Film industry are loudly clamoring in their chorus of support for Roman Polanski. After all, he only raped a 13 year old after slipping her drugs and alcohol. George Bush, however, is guilty of supporting strong tactics to pursue terrorists after the 9/11 attacks on America.
The New York Times reports that Film industry leaders like Woody Allen, Pedro Almodovar, Martin Scorsese and Costa Gavras signed a petition with about 100 names that expressed “stupefaction” with the arrest of Mr. Polanski at the Zurich airport. The arrest means possible extradition to the United States in connection with a 32-year-old sex case involving Samantha Geimer who was 13 years old at the time.
American Film producer Harvey Weinstein, in his protest and plea for support against Polanski’s arrest, wrote in the UK’s Independent Commentators, “Now Thierry Frémaux, the director of the Cannes film festival, and I are calling on every US filmmaker to lobby against any move to bring Polanski back to the US, where he could face life in jail.”
According to the Times, not all of filmdom’s support was universal; Luc Besson, a prominent French film director and producer, was not on the list, though he describes himself as a Polanski friend.
“This is a man who I love a lot and know a little bit,” Mr. Besson said in a radio interview with RTL Soir. “Our daughters are good friends. But there is one justice, and that should be the same for everyone. I will let justice happen.” He added, , “I don’t have any opinion on this, but I have a daughter, 13 years old. And if she was violated, nothing would be the same, even 30 years later.”
So well stated that further comment is not necessary.

Hollywood believes that there are two justice systems; one for Hollywood and another for the rest of us. Roman Polanski pleaded guilty in the case and then fled when he thought he might get a more severe sentence than his attorneys predicted. Kudos to French film director, M. Luc Benson, for reminding us that justice should be applied evenly, without regard to wealth and Hollywood double standards.
SINCE THERE ALWAYS HAS BEEN A DIFFERENT SET OF RULES FOR THE RICH VS. THE WORKING CLASS WHY WOULD THEY THINK “RAPE” SHOULD BE ANY DIFFERENT? AND SINCE THE JUSTICE DEPT. SEEMS TO ARGREE WITH THEM SHOULD WE EVER EXPECT ANY THING ELSE? ASK WHOOPIE. THERE’S RAPE AND THEN THERE’S RAPE RAPE. A SLIDING SCALE. HOW NICE.
